Sucden expands its coffee business in Colombia

Sucden announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Engelhart Commodities Trading Partners’ Colombian business.

Sucden will take over the Colombian coffee business and local team of ECTP at the beginning of December. ECTP’s coffee business, focused on Arabica variety, started five years ago with the hiring of a group of former Armajaro traders.

Colombia is the second largest producer of Arabica coffee. ‘Developing Colombia as an origin forms an integral part of our global coffee strategy and this agreement will help us speed up the process’, said Auke Vlas, Managing Director of Sucden’s coffee business.

Sucden has been expanding its coffee business with the acquisition of New York-based Coffee America in 2014 and the Dutch trader Nedcoffee BV in 2015. Nedcoffee has a strong presence in India, Vietnam and Indonesia, large coffee producers of Robusta beans.
