GENERAL COCOA COMPANY (Genco)
General Cocoa Company (Genco), a division of Coffee America (USA) Corporation, was founded in 1937 in New York City, where it continues to operate today.
Genco sources cocoa beans and products globally and has a diverse customer base including chocolate manufacturers, cocoa processors and the trade.
The company offers both conventional and certified (Rainforest Alliance, UTZ and organic) cocoa beans and products.
Genco is a long-standing member of the Cocoa Merchants Association of America (CMAA), the Federation of Cocoa Commerce (FCC) and the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE).
We are committed to sustainable agriculture and to the coffee and cocoa farmers that are the cornerstone of our business. Today our involvement is through certification (Rainforest Alliance, UTZ, organic). Certification provides opportunities for farmers to improve their agricultural practices, making it possible to increase productivity and improve quality.
In addition, farmers are trained in health and safety, environmental and wildlife protection as well as basic business skills. Farmers, their families and their communities also benefit from improved social infrastructure such as schools, wells and medical clinics, which can be paid for with the certification premiums paid by the coffee and cocoa supply chain partners.
Our sustainability efforts will continue to evolve as we get increasingly involved at origin with both our suppliers and our customers. We are able to work directly with our customers to develop sustainability programs that meet specific customer objectives.
